Dr. Jeremiah Whittington, MD

Dr. Jeremiah “Elder” Whittington’s life is a profound testimony of faith, obedience, and divine redirection. Born as the long-awaited son after his father prayed for a child to dedicate back to God, Jeremiah’s life was marked early by promise. At thirteen, a powerful spiritual encounter with Jesus gave him clarity of purpose and three lifelong commitments: to serve others through medicine, to be corrected if he ever strayed from his calling, and to secure eternal life.
Despite this revelation, Jeremiah’s journey was anything but straightforward. Passion for basketball overshadowed academics until a devastating knee injury forced him to reconsider his future. Through mentors who saw potential he could not yet recognize, he gained access to higher education, navigating racism, financial hardship, academic detours, and the turbulence of the Vietnam War era.
Repeatedly, when Jeremiah believed he had settled into an alternate path—whether psychology, counseling, or doctoral studies—God intervened, honoring the second promise and redirecting him back toward medicine. His path to becoming a physician was marked by extraordinary trials: suspension from medical school, accusations of delusion, financial crises, and systemic barriers. Yet at every breaking point, doors opened through faith, perseverance, and unexpected advocates.
Ultimately, Dr. Whittington earned his medical degree, became an obstetrician-gynecologist, rose to leadership as Chief of Gynecology, and fulfilled his childhood vow through medical missions in Africa. His story is not simply one of professional success, but of unwavering faith, resilience against overwhelming odds, and a calling that could be delayed—but never denied.
